The 5 worst states:
Illinois is the worst at an effective tax rate (total state and local tax rates on median US household) of 15.05%. That translates into $10,463 per average US household. Go Chicago! Another reason I wouldn’t want to live there.
Connecticut gets the 2nd worst rating with an effective tax rate of 14.80%. The average US household pays $10,287.
New York is #3. Their effective tax rate is 14.23%, resulting in the average US household paying $9,894.
Pennsylvania gets the 4th worst tax state award at an effective tax rate of 13.92%, the average US household in that state paying $9,675 in combined state and local taxes.
Kansas is #5…as the worst state to live in as a taxpayer. Their effective tax rate is 13.57%, the average US household in Kansas paying $9,433 in combined taxes.
The 5 best states:
Alaska is the best! Brrrr! Their effective tax rate is 6.05%, with the average US household in Alaska paying $4,204 in combined state and local taxes. (I wonder if that Oil kickback for every citizen causes this low rating?)
Delaware is #2! How did they do that? Effective tax rate is 6.34%, with the average US household in Delaware paying $4,405 in combined taxes. I guess Joe Biden did something right?
Montana is the 3rd best state with an effective tax rate of 7.12%. The average US household in Montana pays only $4,948 in combined taxes.
NEVADA made it to 4th place as the BEST state to live in as a taxpayer. YAY Nevada! Our effective tax rate is 7.79%, with the average US household in Nevada paying $5,414 in taxes. We are almost exactly HALF of New York!!!
Wyoming rounds out the top 5. Their effective tax rate is 8.06% with the average US household in Wyoming paying $5,604 in combines state and local taxes.
